Escape & Deconstrucción

El camino recorrido por Daniel Lavoie no transcurre solo en los cambios y vaivenes de su práctica artística, sino también en los espacios que habita para construir una nueva etapa de creación. Los territorios en contraste que alimentan el imaginario de Escape & Deconstrucción nacen de experiencias en culturas tan diversas como su Canadá natal y Alemania al norte del plano, y Ecuador y México hacia el sur, moviéndose entre estas dos zonas de ideología global polarizada geográfica y simbólicamente. La ausencia y destello del color y la luz en la memoria y cotidiano de Lavoie, forman una paleta pictórica ligada íntimamente al viaje emocional desde el que confiesa: "estas investigaciones son oscilaciones entre un punto y otro de mi vida".

Los tránsitos contendios en estas piezas y que han convertido al artista en un transeúnte de exploración visual, integran la forma y el color con la inquietud de un extranjero en lugar ajeno, un explorador ansioso e ingenuo de lo que le rodea y enfocado en sí mismo a la vez. Desde una biografía que comenzó en un contexto conservador, serio y mesurado vuelto trabajo monocromo y gris, se amplifica un eco que resuena hasta hoy en la necesidad y urgencia de un quiebre, en buscar de algún modo traducir en el color aquellas oscilaciones del contexto más abierto que ahora se atraviesa. En estas derivas, Lavoie se sorprende al revelar cada detalle de su indagación transformando en gesto el corte, la superposición, la adición y sustracción para articular un paisaje propio tal vez aún indefinido; un paisaje inscrito como un conjunto de nuevas tierras todavía por descubrir.

Las imágenes creadas, en una pintura que se desborda de los formatos y soportes habituales, son formadas por capas de material tal veladuras hacia la luz y no a la oscuridad, una suerte de delgadas y frágiles cáscaras aunadas que esconden información sensible y proponen lecturas diversas para quien las observa. En un montaje que varía la condición bidimensional de la pintura en posibles volúmenes, las texturas y coloridos en exposición reproducen en la opacidad y el brillo los ejercicios de mezcla y juego ya producidos en cada pieza.

Ampliando los propios códigos dentro de un período de cambios y hallazgos, el escape de Daniel Lavoie se vuelve catarsis en el intento de liberar lo que se ha logrado deconstruir, entendiendo quizás que, finalmente, el arte es echar afuera todo aquello atrapado y así dejar espacio libre, dentro, para lo que vendrá.

Escape & Deconstruction

The path travelled by Daniel Lavoie is not only in the changes and ups and downs of his artistic practice, but also in the spaces he inhabits to build a new stage of creation. The contrasting territories that feed the imagination of Escape & Deconstruction are born from experiences in cultures as diverse as his native Canada and then Germany to the far north of the hemisphere, and then Ecuador and Mexico to the south, moving between these two zones of geographically and symbolically polarised global ideology. The absence and flashing of colour and light in Lavoie's memory and daily life, form a pictorial palette intimately linked to the emotional journey from which he confesses: "these investigations are oscillations between one point and another of my life".

The transitions contained in these pieces, which have turned the artist into a transient of visual exploration, integrate form and colour with the restlessness of a foreigner in a foreign place, an anxious and naive explorer of what surrounds him and focused on himself at the same time. From a biography that began in a conservative, serious and measured context turned monochrome and grey work, an echo is amplified that resonates until today in the need and urgency of a break, in seeking somehow to translate into colour those oscillations of the more open context that is now being traversed. In these drifts, Lavoie surprises himself by revealing every detail of his inquiry, transforming into gesture the cut, the superposition, the addition and subtraction to articulate a landscape of his own, perhaps still undefined; a landscape inscribed as a set of new lands yet to be discovered.

The images created, in a painting that overflows the usual formats and supports, are formed by layers of material such as veils towards the light and not the darkness, a sort of thin and fragile shells joined together that hide sensitive information and propose different readings for those who observe them. In a montage that varies the bi-dimensional condition of the painting in possible volumes, the textures and colours on display reproduce in opacity and brightness the exercises of mixing and play already produced in each piece.

Expanding these proper codes within a period of changes and findings, Daniel Lavole's escape becomes cathartic in the attempt to release what has been achieved via the act of deconstruction, perhaps understanding that, finally, art is to throw out all that has been trapped and thus provide free space, inside, for what will come.
